The Facts About Cracks - A Guideline to Assessment and Acceptance of Reinforced Concrete Pipelines Many thousands of kilometres of steel-reinforced concrete pipe have been installed all over New Zealand, in many size and varying conditions. They continue to provide satisfactory service, years after installation. The reinforced concrete pipe industry is guided by two standards for manufacture, durability, design and installation. Significant changes to the industry in New Zealand have taken place over the last 30 years, and this has required these two Standards to be updated. The two standards are: AS /NZS 4058:2007 “Precast concrete pipes – pressure and non pressure” – (This replaces the outdated Standard NZS3107:1978) outlines the minimum requirements for materials and manufacture of precast reinforced concrete pipes. AS /NZS 3725:2007 “Design for installation of buried concrete pipes” – (This replaces the outdated Standard NZS/AS3725:1989) sets out the methods and data required for calculating working loads on buried-concrete pipe, relating this to the correct selection of reinforced concrete pipe and specifying details of the installation. However, over these last 30 years there has been a number of significant changes take place in the industry impacting on site construction work and the installation of reinforced concrete pipe, with respect mainly to productivity, construction machinery, site supervision, inspection and constraints on time, budgets and skills.
This seminar will explore the impact that these issues can have on reinforced concrete pipe, as well as relating them to the changes that have taken place in the industry. The seminar will also look at how the appropriate implementation of New Zealand Standards for concrete pipe can provide specifiers with a durable and sustainable pipeline system. |

Setting the Standards in Concrete Pipe Seminar brief: Steel reinforced concrete pipe relies on quality manufacturing, careful design consideration, correct placement and installation, and positive asset management to ensure that a pipeline system remains durable and serviceable for the duration of its life. Australian and New Zealand Standards are essential documents to consult when considering these pipelines, and in recent times, those relevant to reinforced concrete pipe publications have been revised. |
